It will be riding on a brand new platform.
There are no new rumors about an electric Porsche Boxster. Weight will remain a problem for the Stuttgart-based battery-powered entry level sports car, but we do know that the automaker is currently testing different types of electric Boxster prototypes. Although the exact launch date is unknown, a new report suggests that a concept car will be available soon.
Car and Driver seem to know that a Boxster Electric Vehicle (Boxster EV) is in development. The brand’s executive board member Michael Steiner said to the publication Porsche that the brand is working hard to complete the task. The publication does not know much about the concept vehicle, but it is possible that Porsche will take a similar approach as the Mission E, which showed the production Taycan.
The manufacturer may reveal the Boxster EV concept, if that is indeed the case. Information suggests that the zero-emission sports car could have a new architecture. This is different from the PPE platform which will be used to support the upcoming Macan EVO.
Driver and draw the obvious conclusion that the Boxster (and Cayman’s) could adopt a similar strategy to the Macan, despite their different platforms. The crossover’s electric version is expected to go alongside the traditional combustion-powered models. This is also true for the sports car duo. These are only assumptions at the moment. However, the pieces seem to fit together well.
If true reports of an electric Boxster are true, it will be a major step in Porsche’s electrification efforts. Although the Taycan was a completely new model, the Macan and Boxster electrics could be the first electric versions.
