Nissan claims it is only evaluating the technology.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency’s FuelEconomy.gov website, the 2021 Nissan Rogue will get a turbocharged 1.5 liter three-cylinder. The new powertrain is not yet available from Nissan.
Nissan regularly reviews potential future technologies for existing models. A pilot program is being planned with a new powertrain that could be used in the 2021 Nissan Rogue. “We have nothing else to announce at the moment,” Josh Clifton, Nissan spokesperson, told Motor1.com.
Nissan did not respond to questions regarding when the pilot program will begin or who would be participating in it.
The listing states that the 1.5-liter engine can be found in all Rogue models, even the Platinum. It is available with either front- or all-wheel drive. The listing also suggests that all buyers get an 8-speed automatic. The powertrain output is not yet known.
According to the EPA filing, the base 1.5-liter Rogue gets 30 mpg city, 37 mpg highway and 33 mpg combined when it is front-wheel-drive. The all-wheel drive layout gets close to the same results at 30 mpg in city, 36 highway mpg, and 33 combined mpg.
The SL and Platinum grades have slightly differing stats. Front-wheel drive gets them 30 mpg in the city, 36 mpg on the highway, and 32 combined. The all-wheel drive variant achieves 29 mpg in the city, 35 highway mpg, and 32 combined mpg.

The Rogue is only currently available with a 2.5-liter four cylinder naturally aspirated that produces 181 horsepower, 181 pound-feet torque and runs through a CVT. The best model achieves 30 mpg, while the lowest-fuel-efficient model earns 28 mpg.
The Rogue was Nissan’s most-popular product in America in 2020. They delivered almost 28 percent of all 819,715 units sold by the brand. It makes sense to explore ways to make the Rogue more popular, given how important it is for the automaker.
