Infiniti tells the story of its origins in eight-part series

Celebrating 32 Years of Nissan’s premium brand.

The year 1989 is a significant year for anyone who lives in Eastern Europe. 1989 was a year that saw significant historical events in this region of the globe, such as a wave revolution in countries like Poland (now Hungary), Czechoslovakia, Romania, Bulgaria and others. However, the situation was quieter on the other side, and it was the right moment for one Japanese brand’s debut.

November 8, 1989 was the exact date Infiniti began selling vehicles in the United States. This marque was Nissan’s response to growing demand for luxury vehicles and a direct competitor to Lexus and Acura. The Q45 and M30 were the first models to be made available in North America. They were based on Nissan products.

Infiniti released eight videos on YouTube to celebrate 32 years since its inception. Click the link below to view all eight videos. We’ve also attached the first two videos. The pilot episode was our favorite. We meet Dean Leathers, who was part Infiniti’s founding team from 1985 to 1994.

“I was part the original launch team for the brand in the late 1980s. My primary responsibility was product communication. This means that I created and told the stories about the brand and product. My team was a remarkable group of people. Bill Bruce, the original Infiniti division head, was the inspiration for us to bond together as a family. Their chemistry was what was most remarkable. […] We still keep in touch with each other, over 30 years later.”

Infiniti has a strong market presence today, thanks to its lineup of sedans and convertibles. Infiniti has seen some very exciting concept cars over the past three decades, and the brand is even involved in Formula 1.
