Other than the lifting suspension, there are many other changes.

Although the Volkswagen Group doesn’t have an off-roader, it does have a number of models that can handle rugged variants of its regular models. VAG has many models to suit those who don’t like SUVs, but still want the added versatility of SUVs.

The 911 Safari , another new Stuttgart car, fits the bill. This prototype, unlike the jacked up 911 one-off creation, is widely expected to become a production car. It is not yet clear if it will be a regular trim or a limited-run edition, but those with deep pockets should be able get one.

While the test vehicle looked a lot like a 911, it was seen being tested in a winter wonderland in northern Europe. There are some subtle differences worth noting. One of the changes is the increased ride height. The wheel arch extensions are another. Porsche also modified the bumpers to improve the departure and approach angles.

The front bumper has been removed a little while the rear license plate was moved higher to redesign it and make it more suitable for mild off-roading adventures. The production version will get chunky tires, a custom alloy wheel design, and other subtle changes to distinguish the “Safari”, from the more performance-oriented 911s.

The official debut of the Porsche 911-powered 911 prototypes could be later in the year, considering that Porsche has been testing them since at least Oct 2020 when our spy cameras caught one. The “Safari”, which is standard all-wheel drive, could be offered as a donor car. Due to the additional off-road amenities, expect to pay a premium on the standard 4S model at $122,400. The power output of a twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat-6 engine with 443 horsepower and 390 pound-feet (390 Newton-meters) could remain the same.

Spy shots show that there are many other 911s to be followed by the GT3. Along with a GT3 Touring and a GT3 RS, the GTS is also available. A hybrid Porsche will be available sooner than expected, and it is possible that Zuffenhausen may have other plans.
