It’s a good idea.
It appears that the Volkswagen core brand is not the only major automaker to change its corporate logo. Kia will likely do the same in the very near future. A number of trademark applications dating back to November 26 revealed a long-overdue interpretation for the Kia logo that clearly shows how the brand has evolved over the past decade. The application for the stylized KIA avatar, which was available in black and red flavors, was submitted back home to the Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service. Both the fields for the application publish date and registration date are empty. This means that Kia has not yet received the stamp of approval from local authorities. However, it’s only a matter time. KIPRIS’s search results reveal that Kia applied for the logos in July 19th. Although VW’s new logo looks more like the old one, it is completely different with Kia’s. The changes are significant. The new badge may look familiar to some, but there are good reasons for it. The Imagine by Hyundai concept logo was virtually identical at the Geneva Motor Show. It was only illuminated in white.
Although it’s not clear if the new logo will be adopted by all cars, reports suggest that Kia may use it only for hybrids and electric vehicles. It’s still refreshing to see that a new logo is possible, considering the fact that the current badge has had a rather boring design for so long. Last note: The Stinger is sold in South Korea without the traditional corporate logo of an “E”, while the Mohave SUV sports its own badge.
