It will be made in France, and likely won’t be known as Micra.
Although the current generation Nissan Micra is available since 2017, it’s likely that it hasn’t been a huge seller for Japanese brands. There were less than 40,000 copies shipped in Europe last year. The model lost its diesel engine option in November 2020. It appears that the replacement model will lose all combustion engines.
The first teaser image of the Micra’s successor has been released by Nissan. Based on the information available so far, it appears that the new model may get a new name. Although the automaker has yet to reveal the name, it does say that the new compact car will be offered on the European market as an electric vehicle. The Micra’s successor will remain Nissan’s entry-level model, and it will continue to be designed by Japanese designers. Renault will however be in charge of engineering and producing the car. It will be built on the CMF-B-EV platform. Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance’s 2030 roadmap includes the new compact electric vehicle. It is based on five common architectures.
“This is a great example the Alliance’s smart differentiation approach. Ashwani Gupta (Nissan COO), comments that this model succeeds our iconic Micra and will bring more excitement to our customers in Europe. One teaser image shows a small, cute-looking car with large round LED daytime running lamps at the front. This car almost looks like a Mini. However, we don’t have enough information to make a final assessment. Renault will produce the new zero emission hatchback at its ElectriCity facility in France. The new hatchback will be joined by other Nissan products, such as the all-electric Townstar small vehicle. Nissan will release additional details about the vehicle, including its name, launch date, and technical details “in due course”.
