The Beauer 3XC is small enough to be carried, but large enough to use at campsites.
Some Motor1.com readers may recognize this cool camper. The Beauer 3XC is the latest offering from this French niche camper manufacturer. It is also extremely practical as it can be mounted to a van/truck with a compact design that expands once it’s parked to create a large living space.
We already featured the 3X expanding camp trailer from Beauer last summer. The 3XC improves on the idea by removing the trailer and mounting the telescoping camper directly onto a vehicle. This camper is not like a regular drop-in camper, but requires a chassis with a flat-floor. Once it’s retracted and installed, it becomes a camper the same size as a regular van. It opens up at the campsite to become a modest, 129-square-foot motorhome.
As with the 3X trailer, the Beauer 3XC has electrically-operated telescoping sides that are supported on each end when extended. You’ll find a combination living/dining area that can seat five people. The large kitchen is located next to the central module. It includes a refrigerator, sink and two-burner stove. There’s also a lot of storage space. The bedroom is the third module. It can accommodate two people. The bathroom is located between the kitchen and bedroom. It has a five-gallon freshwater tank.
Beauer has many options. Not the least is heat and air conditioning for four season operation. You have the option of heating with gas or electric, and you can add larger tanks to hold fresh and/or waste water. There are many options available, including integrated steps, solar panels and bike racks.
Beauer sells 3XC complete vehicles starting at EUR66,000. This equates to roughly $72,400. However, availability in the United States is not clear. Although the company states that it can sell direct to US buyers, we believe that this applies to trailers which don’t need to meet the same import requirements as cars.
