As the automotive industry moves to electric vehicles, expect to hear more automakers announce the end of the combustion engine. Mini today announced plans to discontinue ICE-powered cars by 2025. British brand Mini will switch completely to EVs by the 2030s.

Mini estimates that fully electric cars will make up at least half the annual sales of the company by 2027, before the start of the next decade. This will be the end of the era of combustion engines. In 2023, the next generation Countryman will go into production at the Leipzig plant in Germany. It will come with both all-electric and traditional powertrains.
Mini and Great Wall Motor are also working together to create an EV platform that will allow them to produce new electric cars starting in 2023. Oliver Zipse stated that every new British car will be built without a combustion engine as part of the BMW Group’s green push. This includes electric Rolls-Royce models.
BMW claims that its Mini sub-brand “will play a pioneering role moving forward, as it is an urban brand that is absolutely perfect for electric mobility.” It will continue to be a global brand “with a footprint across every region of the globe” in the inevitable EV era.
