The car may have been saved by quick-acting witnesses.
We have written many times about how cars can catch fire if they aren’t careful. A combination of the right materials and the right amount of carelessness can lead directly to disaster. This was almost what happened at a recent London car show. The Nissan GT-R was capable of igniting flames from its tailpipes, but some quick-acting witnesses may have saved it from being thrown to the curb.
The video begins with the GT-R parked in a garage. The driver revving the engine and flames shooting from the rear. The video then cuts to the outside of the car, which is still shooting flames while it stops. Again, the video cuts to the car outside. This time the smoke rises above the crowd and the murmurs of fire ripple through them. As the driver and other bystanders try to put out the flames, the cameraman jostles for position.
Some people are throwing their jackets at the fire to put out the flames, while others try to pour water on it with bottles of water. They did their best to keep the fire at bay until someone arrived with an extinguisher. In an effort to reach the fire, someone ripped off the bumper. However, that did little good. Although it is not clear where the fire was, it was only doused from below. It’s not difficult to believe that the exhaust heated up and started the fire.
The video ends with firefighters putting out the flames and passers-by pushing the Nissan away from the scene. Although there is significant damage to the rear end of the vehicle, it does not appear to be that severe. The car should be repairable. However, we don’t know if there is more damage below, which could alter any restoration plans. We are just thankful that the fire did not spread and that no one was injured. The owner or someone else is seen trying to put out the flames using a jacket. He then gets very close to them.
