Kia Stinger GT S Takes On Tesla Model S In Top Gear Drag Race

It’s a classic gas vs. electrical drag race. Place your bets.

Since the Tesla Model S’s debut in 2012, it has been outpacing its competition when it comes to acceleration. Top Gear brought out a Hyundai Stinger GT S, and the fastest Model S they could find and put them in a drag race. They pitted the Model S P100D against the Porsche 911R last year. Despite being lighter than the Tesla’s Model S, the 911 has more power. However, the Porsche 911 R was unable to beat the P100D in the quarter mile.

In terms of numbers, the Model S 75D and Stinger GT S are very close in this matchup. Rear-wheel-drive Stinger is slightly more powerful with 370 horsepower, compared to Tesla’s 367 ponies. This is despite the fact that all four wheels drive the Tesla. The torque department is won by the 75D, which produces 486 pound-feet more torque than the Stinger’s 367. It is impossible to predict the outcome of the race before it even starts, as each opponent has an advantage over the others.

After both drivers received the go-ahead, the Model S’s massive torque advantage and all-wheel drive just blew the Stinger away at the beginning. The Model S is about 440lbs lighter than the Tesla and the Stinger couldn’t catch up at launch. The 75D then continues to lead its petrol-powered rival to the finish.

It’s clear that electric power is very hard to beat, with its instant torque and incredible power. The Model S was able to unleash all its torque instantly, while the Stinger had to wait for turbos to start up. We don’t know whether the Stinger GT S shown in the video has AWD. However, it wouldn’t have been much of an improvement. If the finish line was at the one-mile mark, instead of the quarter, we’d love to see how they compare. Who would win?
