Next Veyron will surpass the Bugatti Veyron Sport’s performance by using weight-saving measures.
The VW Group seems to be still interested in the next Bugatti Veyron.
The Auto Express has confirmed that the next Veyron model’s top speed will be 270 mph (434.52 kilometers/h), which is the highest speed attained by the record, set by the current Veyron SUPER Sport.
The next Veyron, however, will be different. It will draw inspiration from the original Veyron design by Walter de Silva (now head of design at VW Group), which was created in 1999. This design was not revealed to the public. Hartmut Warkuss’ 18/4 Veyron concept beat it at the 1999 Tokyo motorshow.
This is the Bugatti Renaissance design study by John Mark Vicente from Canada. It was envisioned as a Veyron successor.
The 8.0-liter W16 engine, which is paired with four turbochargers and a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox, will power the next Veyron. The output will likely be the same as the current Super Sport, with 1,200 bhp (895kW / 1217 PS) et 1,500 Nm.
The Veyron’s sprint speed of 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) will be around 2.5 seconds. Weight-saving measures will allow it to slightly surpass the Super Sport’s performance numbers.
Bugatti will enlist the assistance of Lamborghini, a sister brand to help keep the Veyron’s mass at around 1,838 kg (4.052 lbs). It will use carbon-composite material for its monocoque chassis, and most of its cabin trim. To reduce its overall weight of around 100 kg (220 lbs), the next Veyron will have thinner glass and lighter alloy wheels.
The 2013 debut of the new Veyron is expected. It will be available for purchase in 2013, with prices exceeding PS1 million (EUR1.2million).
