Also, a battery-powered version is possible.
Yesterday, the new Land Rover Range Rover was unveiled. It features an evolutionary design, powerful engines and plenty of comfort. The super-luxury SUV is set to be launched in the United States using just two powertrains: a mild-hybrid 3.0-liter inline-6 mild-hybrid from BMW and a 4.4-liter BMW V8, while a plug-in hybrid powertrain for the Range Rover will arrive in 2023. Land Rover will introduce its first ever electric Range Rover a year later. This could be a secret.
The new MLA platform allows Land Rover to offer different types of electrification. Land Rover’s flagship model, the Land Rover Discovery, is built on it. Interview with Autocar, Land Rover Nick Miller, program director, confirmed that the architecture could also accommodate a hydrogen-powered powertrain. This suggests a new EV variant in the Range Rover range. Although little is known about this project, Miller told the British publication that hydrogen will be used in addition to battery-electric powertrains. Land Rover hopes to become carbon-neutral by 2036. Land Rover is not a stranger to fuel cell technology, and is already testing an integrated hydrogen system into a Defender prototype. As a preview of the technology’s potential, a hydrogen-powered vehicle should be released as soon as possible.
Autocar reports on a new partnership between Land Rover (UK) and BMW. The publication claims that at least two electric motors will be used to develop new electric drive systems. It also states that it is likely that the Range Rover EV will have a power output comparable to that of the most powerful combustion-powered models. The P510e, which is currently the most electrified Range Rover available in Europe, features a 3.0-liter inline six engine, a 38.2-kWh Li-ion battery and an integrated 141-hp electric motor. The combined powertrain of the PHEV is 510 horsepower (375 kW), which allows for a sprint of 5.6 seconds (0-100 km/h) at 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h). The plug-in hybrid will be launched in the United States by British brand, but it will come in a slightly modified form with 434 horsepower (324 kW)).
