There are no more rumors. The company’s Senior Vice-President for Global Design said that he is currently working on the replacement of the 370Z.
To say that the 370Z is getting old would be an understatement. It is a two-seat rear-wheel-drive coupe that has been around for nearly ten years. This makes it one the most valuable sports cars money can buy. Rumours of a long-awaited direct replacement for the coupe have been circulating in recent months. However, there are no guarantees.
Alfonso Albaisa was the host of an entertaining conversation with the Australians at WhichCar. If the name doesn’t sound familiar, he is Senior Vice President for Global Design at Nissan. He is the genius behind the stunning Infiniti Prototype9 and equally beautiful Infiniti Q inspiration Concept.
It’s there. Nissan has been hard at work creating a successor to its aging 370Z. WhichCar thinks we will have to wait for the next Z, as Nissan may decide to reveal the sports coupe within the next year. Tokyo Motor Show, scheduled for October 2019, could be the ideal venue to unveil the new Z car.
Alfonso Albaisa won’t share this information for now, but it should suffice to let us know that a new Z is being developed. We would rely on Japanese rumors that Nissan is working with Mercedes. However, we’d be careful to not take this rumor lightly. According to reports, the plan is for a four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine from three-pointed star and an Infiniti 3.0-liter V6.
Expect the Nissan Z to be the most powerful, with 400 horsepower. There may even be a hybrid version. We wouldn’t bet on this gossip but it would be interesting to hear Nissan and Mercedes join forces in a similar fashion to the way BMW and Toyota did with their jointly-developed Z4 and Supra models.
The most important thing is that the next generation Nissan Z arrives. Hooray!
