This new concept is 70 percent recycled and 95 percent recyclable.
Renault’s yet-to be named concept aims to “change cars” and make them more sustainable. The cabin is shown in a teaser video that was released today, ahead of the world premiere scheduled for May 19. Although the French automaker isn’t going into detail, we can see a steering wheel. It looks like it is wrapped around a lace-like material. This reminds us of an older Toyota Century’s lace curtains.
The concept features a high-tech cabin that has no less than four screens at the center of the dashboard. These quad rectangles could be used as visual links to the previously teased four-point headlights. The concept is recyclable at 95 percent and was manufactured with 70 percent recycled materials.
The concept will be powered by hydrogen, as previously announced. Toyota demonstrated this with GR Yaris prototypes and Corolla prototypes. However, a vehicle equipped with a hydrogen fuel tank is not necessarily an electric. Renault is following a similar route by installing a modified combustion engine that can run on hydrogen.
This technology is not yet widely used and infrastructure is still in its infancy. It is too early to predict whether it will be a viable option. Although some engineers and researchers are trying to save the ICE, it is clear that the future of the ICE is uncertain.
It will not only be a demonstration of technology, but it will also open the door to a new design language. Some even suggested that it would be a preview of the Renault 4, which will morph into an electric vehicle by the middle of this decade.
Renault will unveil the concept at 2022 ChangeNOW on May 19, when all will be revealed. The event, which will be held at Grand Palais Ephemere as well as the Eiffel Tower, is dedicated to helping make the world a better place. It will showcase Renault’s ambition to “change automobiles.”
