Mercedes-AMG GT Plug-In Hybrid with 805 HP Teased, Launches September 1

In just three seconds, it will reach 60 mph.

To preview the future, Mercedes-AMG’s GT Concept was unveiled on March 7, 2017. A preview of the future was also provided by the Geneva showcar, which showcased a plug-in hybrid that is extremely powerful and can compete with Zuffenhausen’s Turbo S E-Hybrid. The production version of the car is expected to debut on September 1, 2021.

The new AMG GT 4-Door Coupe has been extensively shown off in recent months. It was rumored to be called the “GT73e”. However, it is not yet official as some reports suggest that it will be known as the AMG GT63E-Performance. We do know that the new version will be a combination of the twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V8 engine (M177) and an electric motor. This will produce a total output exceeding 600 kilowatts. That’s about 805 horsepower. What is the combined torque? A mountain-moving 738 pound-feet (1,001 Newton-meters).

The new “E Performance” banner will sell it. It will include the next-generation AMG C63 with an electrified 4-cylinder engine and the F1-derived AMG One hypercar. It has been proven that the new four-door PHEV can reach 60 mph in less than three seconds, beating the AMG GT63S’ 3.1 second time.

The electric drive unit, consisting of an emotor, a two speed transmission and a limited slip differential, will be mounted at the rear axle to improve weight distribution. The electric motor has a peak power output of 150 kW (70kW continuous power), and an instant torque output of 236lb-ft (312 Nm). The 6.1-kWh lithium battery pack, weighing in at 89 kg (196 pounds), will provide the required juice.

The PHEV version of the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe will likely be more expensive than the $161,900 GT63S. It will be the most expensive Mercedes model, other than the S-Class or AMG One.

The electrified version will be more expensive than the base AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. This starts at under $90,000. For the “43”, the E-Performance will cost twice as much.

The new performance PHEV will make its debut at the world premiere on Wednesday. It will be on display at IAA Munich a few days later.
