A Supra equipped with a clutch pedal may be available in 2023.

Let’s go back to August 2018, when Toyota’s chief engineer Tetsuya Taka stated that the Supra would be “feel worse”due the engine’s torque. The US-spec inline-six 3.0-liter engine of Bavarian origin produces 368 pound-feet (500 Nm). The rumor mill continued to churn out reports about a clutch pedal, despite the official statement.

We got the most recent gossip from the Japanese magazine CarSensor The publication of an article by, dated November 2021, claiming that the Japanese sports cars would allow drivers to finally row their own gears . Our colleagues at The Drive We have heard from a Toyota dealer network source that the Supra will receive a six-speed manual instead of ZF’s 8-speed automatic.
The vehicle could be available as early as the 2023 model year in the US. However, nothing is confirmed at this time. It is not clear if Toyota has changed its mind about pairing the “B58 engine with the DIY ‘box, or if it will be only available with the smaller 2.0-liter engine codenamed B48. Side note: The BMW Z4 comes with a three-pedal configuration, but it is only available for the base model sDrive20i.

With the GRMN derivative, the 2023MY Supra could be expanded with more power and other upgrades. The Gazoo Racing Masters at Nurburgring model could borrow the “S58 engine from the M3/M4 and X3/X4 M. These M cars are available in a more powerful Competition version with 503 horsepower and 479 lb-ft (650Nm) respectively. The M4 CSL, which is expected to arrive later in the year, could offer even more power.

Contacted by The Drive Toyota declined to comment. We are also trying to get a definitive answer. The reports about a manual-equipped Supra date back longer than the A90.

In the meantime, through blink-and-you-will-miss-it teasers, the company has all but confirmed an all-wheel-drive GR Corolla with a manual gearbox is coming stateside.
