These images show the Chinese version, but both the Euro and U.S models should be nearly identical.
Just a few days ago, VW released a couple teasers for the Tiguan Allspace. Now the seven-seat SUV is fully revealed thanks to a few official photos of the CN-spec model. This compact, high-riding model was first spotted in August without any camouflage. These new photos don’t actually show anything we haven’t seen before.
It is exactly what you would expect, a stretched Tiguan with an extended wheelbase. Unfortunately, there are no design changes that will set it apart from the five seat variant. The only exceptions to this are the longer rear doors and flatter roofline. Interior has been almost identical to the previous model.
The new model is 11 cm (4.3 inches) longer than the regular model. This allows for a more spacious interior. Third-row seating will be available, but the rearmost seats are not suitable for children. The larger Atlas / Teramont will offer more space at the back. The Tiguan Allspace will have a much greater cargo volume than the standard model’s 615 liters. It can be folded down to increase its cargo capacity. Owners will have the option to fold down the second row seats to increase their luggage space. This should make the total capacity of the Tiguan Allspace significantly greater than the 1,655 Liters offered by the standard-wheelbase model.
The Allspace, which will be five-seater only Tiguan, will be based on VW’s MQB platform. It will come with a variety of turbocharged gasoline or diesel four-cylinder engines that send power to the front axle. Or an optional 4Motion set. VW will offer it with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a dual-clutch transmission depending on the engine choice. You can imagine that there won’t be any TDI engines available in North America.
The model is scheduled to be revealed in U.S. specification at NAIAS Detroit next month. It will also go on sale in Europe under the name “Tiguan Allspace”, as well as in the United States and China as the “Tiguan Allspace.” The CN-spec model will not be manufactured locally by the Shanghai- Volkswagen joint enterprise.
The Geneva Motor Show will host a European debut in March 2017. VW says the Tiguan’s larger interior will have seven seats, which could mean that the two rearmost seats in the back will be more expensive than standard. One of the photos below actually shows the crossover as a five-seater with plenty of rear legroom.
