Long-time Lexus owners aren't happy with the new design approach

The spindle grille has a very polarizing effect.

The current Lexus lineup is a striking example of Lexus’ unique styling approach. Lexus cars are bolder than the Germans, who have a wide range of attractive, but conservatively designed cars. The latest version of the spindle grille is on models such as the LCC 500 and LLF-1 Limitless Concept. Although the bold styling isn’t for everyone, the company believes that the attractive shape draws the right buyers.

“The people that see it as somewhat polarizing will be, for most part, those that have been with me since the beginning,” Jeff Bracken (Lexus General Manager) stated Carbuzz. “In fact, I’ll take phone calls form some of these owners and will literally spend 45 to an hour talking with them just to express how disappointed they are.”

Bracken acknowledges that the avant-garde design could lead to older customers abandoning the brand. However, he is willing to take the risk if it brings more people to the company. He said that if our average age was 60, then it would be necessary to lower it. Carbuzz

Future Lexus models may adopt bolder styling, as evidenced by recent concepts and production models. The LF-1 Limitless (gallery below) shows a massive version of the spindle grille with a strip LED wrapping around the rear. The smaller UX concept indicates that the bold look will also be available at the bottom of the lineup.

Each model has a unique spindle grille, which Lexus makes. A lot of work goes into each one. The LS version was designed by a designer who worked for six months on a computer to adjust the curvature of the 5,000 mesh pieces. A craftsman then used hand tools to fine tune the design and polish the surfaces for a better shine on the roads.
