New spy footage shows the mid-engined Chevrolet Corvette driving to the Nurburgring Nordschleife, pushing hard and pushing around the famous track. Chevy engineers haven’t stopped stripping camouflage from the test mules.

This clip shows the contrasting behavior of the mid-engined Vette on public roads and its more aggressive performance on circuits. The sports car’s sound is barely audible before and after it hits the track. Things change instantly once the car reaches the green hell. The exhaust takes on a more muscular, meaner note.

This ‘Vette driver rings every bit of performance from the car at the Nordschleife. The machine can ride the curbs at almost every corner and makes a quick turn around the track.

You can see two Corvette mid-engined test mules at the end of this clip. The only difference is that one has the roof louvers closed and the other has the holes open. This slight change in Chevy’s engine configuration is not yet clear.

Three engine options are reportedly available for the new ‘Vette. According to reports, the base model will retain the current 6.2-liter V8 that produces 460 horsepower (343 Kilowatts), which is what powers this clip. A twin-turbo, 4.2-liter V8 produces 650 horsepower (485 kW) as a mid-range choice. A twin-turbo V8 5.5-liter with 850 horsepower (634 kW) would be the ultimate choice. This video shows an automatic gearbox.

The production of the mid-engined Vette is expected to begin in September 2019, . However, the debut could be made at Detroit’s North American International Auto Show in January.
