Einige might need to replace their rear bumpers.
Cadillac, like all of General Motors is moving to electric cars. The brand’s first EV, the Lyriq, will be available in the first half this year. This is a major shift for an American icon that was built on V8 luxury cars. Cadillac had been under pressure from the competition in this space, which led to Cadillac adopting performance vehicles over the past decade.
It’s a strong legacy that’s already making its way to drag strip to give late model Cadillacs a new story. The Cadillac owners were astonished to see the YouTube video of the Drag Racing and Car Stuff event at Orlando Speed World Dragway in 2022. This short video features high-powered luxury four- and two-door cars that have far more power than when they were rolled off the assembly lines.
Video shows multiple Cadillacs raising the front wheels as they launch from the starting line. Multiple cars lift the front wheels high enough that they scrape the rear bumper. The video doesn’t give any information about the cars, but very few of them appeared to be stock. The fastest Cadillac at the event was the last one, which ran 9.5 seconds at 142.46 mph (229.27 km per hour). This is a fast time for Cadillacs and indicates that these cars need serious upgrades.
Cadillac’s future performance cars lie in the Escalade V, which makes its debut this spring. The supercharged V8 will likely make 668 horsepower (XXX megawatts), which is quite a feat for a brand that is all electric. Although gasoline-powered engines may be dying, their sound and fury will continue to shake drag strips all across the country until EVs take over.
