Next Honda Civic Type R in Toned-Down Design as Revealed In Spy Shots

The Honda Civic Type-R has been quite a while since it was last seen being tested on public roads. The last spy photos were taken one year ago. Honda has made significant improvements to the Civic’s nameplate. The Japanese automaker revealed the next-generation Civic Hatchback. This is the base of the next red-badged Civic.

Our spy photographers captured the next Civic Type R this time while testing it under the southern European sun.

It looks like the prototype being tested is already on its manufacturing body. However, the prototype is still covered in swirly wrapping, lots of cladding, and lots of cladding, to obscure the design beneath. The Type R’s next generation will not have the spoiler-plus wing setup of the previous generation. This is something you should be aware of. It is important to mention that the Civic Hatchback comes with a tiny spoiler at its tailgate.

The set of vortex generators that are on the current generation CTR are also missing from the prototype. Honda is going for a less formal design on the Type R. That’s up to you.

Honda is however carrying the centrally mounted triple exhaust tips and the hood vent for additional cooling.

The spy images don’t show the cabin in detail, but you can still see the floating touch screen and tablet-like interface. You can actually see the Civic Hatchback interior images to get a better idea.

Honda already confirmed that the next Civic Type R will be launched next year. Although details about the powertrain are not available and remain largely unconfirmed, enthusiasts will be pleased to learn that it will only be stick-shift, with the possibility of adding more power.
