The 2021 model-year Nissan Rogue received a complete refresh. However, the only powertrain, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine, was somewhat disappointing. Nissan has announced that the crossover will be receiving a new 1.5-liter turbocharged, three-cylinder engine. This engine is more powerful than the previous one and also makes it more efficient.
You can expect 201 horsepower (150 Kilowatts) from the three-cylinder engine and 225 pound feet (305 Newton-meters of torque) from the three-cylinder motor.
Check out our first drive review here . This is an 11 percent and 24 percent difference from the 2.5-liter engine, which produced 181 horsepower (134 kW) et 181 lb-ft (245Nm) respectively. The new engine, Nissan claims, improves the Rogue’s fuel-efficiency rating by between 3 and 33 mpg over 2021.
Nissan’s VC-Turbo technology allows for two driving styles. The new engine focuses on increasing dynamic performance and efficiency. The engine has a high-pressure fuel injector system, new textured valve liftingers that reduce friction, and a vacuum low pressure die-cast cylinderhead. There is also a mirror-bore cylinder wall coating in stainless steel.
The new engine will be paired with a new-generation Xtronic transmission by Nissan in the 2022 Rogue. The new twin oil pump system combines a small mechanical and an electrical pump to provide quick shifting in demanding driving conditions. Newly developed control valve technology allows for a wider range of gear ratios and a 17 percent greater coverage.
The Rogue 2022’s new powertrain will bring a slight increase in the starting price (see chart above). Prices exclude the $1,175 delivery charge. Front-wheel-drive models will see an increase of $650, while all-wheel drive trims will see a $750 increase. The 2022 Nissan Rogue will come with three options: SV Premium ($2,660), SL Premium (1,320) and a 10.8 inch head-up display ($400) for the Platinum trim. The 2022 Nissan Rouge will begin to be available this winter. It will start on December 2.
