Black is back.
Mercedes stopped selling Black Series models for many years after the death of the C63 Coupe and SLS AMG. However, the name is set to return. Tobias Moers is Mercedes-AMG’s man in charge. He has revealed that a car worthy of the “Black Series”, nameplate, is being studied. If approved, it will be based upon the C63. Although the body style of the coupe has not yet been revealed, it is likely that it will be blessed once more with the Black Series treatment.
The original Mercedes-AMG E63 came with a naturally-aspirated, 6.2-liter V8, while the new one will be equipped with the biturbo, 4.0-liter V8. The AMG engine produces a healthy 603 horsepower (450 Kilowatts) as well as 627 pound-feet (6850 Newton-meters of torque) in its maximum state of tune. This model is currently on display at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Moers, speaking about the E63, denied rumors that a Black Series model was being developed. However, he did confirm that a GT Black Series is being considered. Moers said that it could be difficult to bring more upgrades to the already powerful R in order to make the car live up the Black Series badge.
Mercedes-AMG is currently working on a new member to the C63 Coupe Black Series family. The model is shown above and will bear the “R”, suffix. It has been captured on camera testing and sporting a fixed rear wings. It is expected to be released in the next year with more power and less weight that the C63 S. The Black Series is unlikely to be released before 2018, and only if the green light is given.
