Fast 9 Super Bowl Ad: Toyota 86 Used To Impose A Truck

Han seems to be hugging Sean Boswell, a Tokyo Drift protagonist.

[UPDATE] Justin Lin, the movie director, revealed via Twitter that three cars were damaged during the four second shot of the Toyota 86 passing through a building and colliding with a truck. Although the scene was animated with CGI, most of it is real. The scene took eight months to prepare and four days of production. It required a crew of over 100 people to film it.

A little more than a year ago, Universal Pictures released a trailer to Fast 9. It announced the yet-to be-explained return Han Lue (played here by Sung Kang). Today’s Super Bowl LV video features a 30-second clip that shows the drift master hugging Tokyo Drift protagonist Sean Boswell, played by Lucas Black.

A glimpse at the rebuilding of the Toretto house after Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), destroyed it in the seventh installment was also part of the much-anticipated blockbuster movie that was shown during the Big Game. Although we aren’t sure, Twinkie (Shad Moss aka Bow Wow), from Tokyo Drift seems to be at the dinner table with the rest.

The new trailer, aside from the return of some characters is the same ol’ same ol’ Fast & Furious. “Mayhem” seems to be the key word. A Toyota 86 is used as a weapon for destruction after smashing through a window. Dominic Toretto said, “Crank it all the Way Up” for another action-packed movie. We’ll see a Noble M600 and Dom’s Charger as well as a number of destroyed police cars.

The clip concludes with the message “In theaters soon” for fans of the long-running franchise. It was originally scheduled to release on May 22, but it was moved to April 2021. However, Fast 9 was delayed again due to the coronavirus epidemic. May 28 this is the new date. Although it’s not clear if the release date has changed, the new spot gives a good indication that the film is on its way.
