This 6x6 Military Rig is Reborn as a Rad Off-Grid Overlander

You have found the overlanding vehicle of dreams.

Overlanding and tiny homes have taken the world by storm. To reap the benefits of both, one man decided to DIY. YouTuber Tiny House Tours takes us through a customized camping trailer built by Bob.

He wanted to be in a position to access campsites previously impossible to reach with a pedestrian-class-A recreational vehicle. He decided to take a DIY approach when exploring the amazing world of overlanding. He wanted to be able take his entire family along on offroad adventures, even though many vehicles can accommodate a few people.

The vehicle’s bread and butter is an old 6×6 military vehicle, classified as a BMY M923A2 by the U.S Army. This is the complicated way that the U.S Army identifies a 6×6 troop carrier. The 8.3-liter turbocharged Cummins diesel engine powers the BMY. Bob installed an air conditioner system that was not available in the U.S Army trim, even though the engine isn’t being modified.

Interior space is a limited resource and should be considered carefully. Bob’s vehicle has plenty of storage space and sleeping area for extended trips. The vehicle comes with all the necessary kitchen accessories, including a stove, sink, and freezer.

Although there are plenty of interior amenities available, one area had to be compromised. The bathroom/shower room was the final result. Although the facilities are adequate, it’s obvious that the vehicle’s space is very small. Bob made a great point about how the majority of time isn’t spent in the toilet, so why take up space when you could use it for other activities?

Bob’s creation is sure to make our overlanders grin more than dogs chasing after spilled treats. This was an enormous undertaking, however. This project took 2.5 years, even with my extensive mechanical engineering experience. Bob strongly suggests that anyone without the same level of experience as him should buy a pre-built pedestrian version of the vehicle.

We are in love with the military overlanding Fusion seen in this vehicle. But we would like to hear your thoughts. Please leave your comments below.
