Automakers often reuse the same parts on multiple vehicles in order to save money. Reddit user Chevrolet Corvette spotted an unusual example of this in a mid-engined sports car. A glow plug pictogram was found on the warning light panel.
Glow plugs, which are heating elements in the cylinders, help diesel engines start when they are cold. They do this by helping the fuel-air mix to ignite. To indicate that the glowplugs have been activated, the dashboard light will turn on. When it turns off, the driver can start the engine.
The C8 does not have a diesel engine so there aren’t glow plugs. As you can see, the Corvette’s insignia does not light up when the driver presses the key. This indicates that there is no bulb to illuminate the pictogram.
Chevy using an indicator from a pickup to power its halo sportscar is quite funny. We are curious to see if the glow plug image will also appear on the Corvette Z06.
