The 2007 Chevy Silverado HD dual-cabin has more than a million miles and the original powertrain.
We have something for pickup truck enthusiasts. And we don’t mean show trucks with huge lifts. Pickup truck & SUV talk Tim Esterdahl has a knack for finding people who get the most from their trucks. He has a two-part video series that features a pair of large GM pickups with more than 1.5 million miles between them. The 2015 GMC Sierra HD has more than 500,000 miles, but the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado HD one ton dually known by Big Red is truly jaw-dropping. It still has the original engine and has logged 1,039,000 miles. It’s amazing in any way.

Brook Smith owns both trucks and makes a living transporting RV trailers across the U.S. and Canada. He has driven to every state, except Hawaii, and visited each province and two territories in Canada. The Duramax diesel engine from GM powers both trucks. Yes, the 2007 model logged a million miles without having to make any major powertrain repairs.
Brooks explains that he purchased the Chevy 2007 brand new and only had to maintain it. He also replaced the fuel injectors every 500,000 miles. He also swapped in an Allison automatic transmission at 400,000 miles . This was not because the factory converter had failed, but because he needed extra insurance to handle the large towing jobs that he was undertaking.
The 2015 Sierra was his final purchase. He wanted something new but was acutely aware that his old Chevy was getting very old. He knew that Silverado would require costly maintenance so he decided to buy the Sierra with 93,000 miles. Then he started the one million march again.
This is only a small portion of Esterdahl’s extensive interview with Smith about how his trucks perform over long distances. These videos cover everything, including tire pressures, towing best practices, how to tow, the differences between single-rear-wheel and dual-rear-wheel trucking, as well as interesting observations about the Duramax power underneath both pickups. The clips will be of interest to anyone who lives the truck lifestyle.
