This is likely to be more about the driver and the tires than it is the Jeep.
People who have criticised Ford for using the “Mustang” badge on its electric SUV are likely to raise their eyebrows when “Bronco”, which was used for a unibody crossover, was also used. Although the Bronco Sports is smaller than its truck-based brother, it has the same off-road skills as its bigger brother. However, new footage shows that it can handle difficult terrain.
It’s not just any terrain. The grueling Hell’s Revenge trail, 6.5 miles, in Moab Utah, where the full-size Bronco was spotted numerous times over the past few days, is a challenging and difficult terrain. The video is now available on YouTube. FreeWheelin Overland On YouTube This is a Bronco Sport in Badlands specifications climbing a hill with moderate effort. It was unable to climb the rocks the first time it tried.
After waiting patiently in line, the lifted Jeep Wrangler Unlimited flavor sans front door attempted to do the same but took a lot longer to complete the course. The JL Rubicon had serious difficulty climbing the hill, whether it was due to the overinflated tires or the driver’s incompetence. You’ll be able to see that the Jeep finally made it to the top if you watch the entire video.
Jumping to conclusions that the video portrays the Jeep as a negative vehicle would be fundamentally wrong. There’s much more to it than just the vehicle. The tires look worn and it has a negative effect on performance. We are not experts in off-roading, but the Wrangler should have been able to clear the obstacle easily.
The video shows that the Badlands trim of the Bronco Sport is indeed at the “peak” of Bronco Sport capabilities, as Ford describes it. The vehicle costs $32,660 and has 8.8 inches of ground clearance if it is equipped with the optional 29-inch A/T tires. This is a one-inch improvement over the Base and Big Bend models, and 0.9 inches more than the Outer Banks.
Badlands has a significantly higher approach, breakover and departure angle than other trim levels. It also has greater maximum water fording capability. The Sport version is still not the Bronco but it should be sufficient for most situations.
