We’ll also see a new R-Line badge on the Atlas Cross Sport R-Line on October 11.
Volkswagen’s updated corporate logo was introduced just a month ago. Now some of the badges have been given a makeover. R is the most exciting. This is part of Volkswagen’s effort to signal a new start for its performance brand. Volkswagen says the new avatar is more modern, distinct and sleek than the logo that you see on older models like the Scirocco R or Passat R36, or the Touareg R50. This is what VW has to share about the new R logo.
The new company logo features a pristine line width, a horizontal arrangement with dynamic curves and a clearly horizontal layout. The brand’s progressiveness is further emphasized by the diagonal line that serves as a contrast. The longer R gives Volkswagen a stronger impression. It demonstrates Volkswagen’s commitment towards exclusivity and performance.”
Two R-badged VW models are currently in the global VW portfolio: the Golf R and The T-Roc R. While the former will be replaced by a new generation sometime in 2020, the latter is a recent addition. This compact crossover is not for America and will compete against the Audi SQ2 and BMW X2 M35i, both with 300 horsepower and all-wheel drive, and a seven speed dual-clutch auto transmission.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the R catalog could be expanded to include an Arteon R as well as a Touareg R. However, we recommend taking these rumors with a pinch of salt. The high-performance fastback will likely use a newly designed turbocharged HTML6 engine with over 400 horsepower. However, nothing is confirmed at this time.
Getting back to the revised badge, VW is also making some changes to the all-show-without-the-extra-go R-Line logo. It will debut in the United States on Friday, October 11th with the debut of the Atlas Cross Sport. The crossover was first shown in March 2018 by the namesake concept. It will be a shorter version the standard Atlas, with a slightly sloped roofline, and five seats. We’ve already driven a prototype, and it is very similar to its big brother. However, it is a lot more agile.
