Matzker, a German company that specializes in Land Rover preparation for overland adventure, has now taken on the task of preparing Land Rovers for such adventures. Matzker’s X-Class camper has a vertically opening door on the exterior that evokes the 300SL Gullwing. The interior has a utilitarian appearance with industrial, brushed metallic finishes. Conversions allow for easy access to the truck’s cabin so that someone can sit in the back while still communicating with the driver. The kitchenette has two gas burners, sink, and a small refrigerator. A seating area can be converted into a sleeping space with an opening hatch that allows you to enjoy the outdoors. A roof-mounted bed is an option that allows more people to spend the night in the vehicle. There is no bathroom.
Matzker also makes a few modifications to ensure that the X-Class can handle off-road use. Matzker also installs a locking rear differential and a ride height that is higher than stock.
This camper is ideal for those who want to travel further from civilization. Matzker provides equipment such as a roof-mounted solar panel and recovery boards, spare wheels carrier, hot water system, and a larger diesel fuel tank to increase range.
Matzker’s camper conversion starts at 89.900 euros ($102,000 at the current exchange rates), plus an X Class donor vehicle. Full loaded examples can run over 180,000 euros ($205,000). Although the price is high, it is comparable to similar overlander conversions such as the GEV Ram Adventure Truck for $198,000 and the MercedesBenz Sprinter-based Winnebago 4×4 for $134 799.
