A three-row, 600-horsepower Bimmer? We’re listening.
BMW has begun construction of a high-performance SUV. We have seen the X7 concept sheet metal and discovered leaked patent images. New reports indicate that the three-row luxury SUV could get a hardcore model M, just like the X3, X5, or X6. We’ll believe it once we see it.
BMWBlog reports that sources in Munich suggested that a M7 with performance goals is being considered. This is not surprising considering that we have seen prototypes for the X7 numerous times on the’ ring. The question is: What kind of powertrain it will have?
The range-topping X7 will be given the M850i designation. It will also have the latest twin-turbocharged 4.4 liter V8 from M850i Coupe. The output should average 523 horsepower (390 Kilowatts) with 553 pound-feet (775 Newton-meters). The M7 proposal would produce 600 horsepower (447 kW), which is not out of reach.
All-wheel drive, automatic transmission and seating for seven should all be standard. The BMW X7 will be directly competitive with existing three-row luxury SUVs such as the Mercedes Benz GLS, which features a hot AMG model, as well as the Audi Q7 and other models.
Although no word has been given on the exact date, we can expect the SUV to arrive in the next few months based on spy photos and leaked images. It could be seen at the Paris Motor Show. The M7 – if BMW decides to make a hardcore version of the X7 then don’t expect it before at least 2019
