This example, known as the American Ferrari is still in existence.
We don’t blame you if you don’t have one, as the Apollo GT is a rare car. Northrup, who wrote the history of Apollo GT, stated that there were only 88 units. Around 55 of those numbers are still in existence today. One of them even visited Jay Leno’s Garage .
This particular Apollo GT is owned by Kurt Brakhage. It’s actually his father’s dream car that he finally bought in 2003, at 72 years of age. It had been stored for 25 years in a very poor condition. Brakhage lost his father in 2010 and the vehicle was left behind for many years. He finally decided to restore it in 2017.
What is it that makes the Apollo GT so special? The Apollo GT is Milt Brown’s dream project. He is an engineer from California. Frank Reisner helped him to form the body in Turin. Then, it was shipped back to California. Franco Scaglione was the former Bertone stylist and Ron Plescia was the original car designer.
Brakhage’s Apollo GT is powered by a 3.5-liter Buick engine. It sends 225 horsepower (168 megawatts) to the wheels via the 4-speed manual transmission.
Although the original Apollo GT prototype was entirely made out of aluminum, the production version was made from steel with aluminum doors and roof. You can find out a lot more about this rare classic car by watching the video above.
