Jaguar Hints at an Electric Hypercar. But it Will Take Some Time

Could this be the return of the C-X75 Concept

Jaguar is a hypercar enthusiast. We can’t help but recall the CX75 concept years ago that was almost ready for production, but was canceled. It was a sad story, as it would have been a great opportunity for British brands, especially since the C-X75 hypercar design made it to James Bond movies, not as Bond’s car but as his enemy.

Here we are again, I_Pace engineer Dave Shaw talks to the Australian motoring about a new hypercar and offers some hints. It would be fully electric this time, which could mean that a full-EV hypercar is possible. But not soon.

Shaw spoke out about the possibility of an electric hypercar in light of the launch of the I-Pace, the latest electric vehicle from British marque. He also mentioned Rimac, McLaren creating their own EV hypercars.

The C-X75, a gasoline-electric hypercar, is powered by a turbo-1.6-liter four-cylinder turbo-engine. It can produce 500 horsepower (or 373 kilowatt) when combined with two electric motors per axle and can travel 62 miles an hour (or 100 km per hour) in just three seconds.

Although developing new vehicles, particularly hypercars can be costly and time-consuming, the I-Pace’s platform allows for a wide range of smaller and larger vehicles from Jaguar and Land Rover. It should, considering that Tata spent $25B on research and development for the I-Pace.

Shaw believes that EV can be a smart solution for automobiles. It can be used in small cars to large hypercars. The I-Pace is just the beginning. Jaguar’s future direction will be revealed over time.
