The American luxury brand has created a stylish new EV.
Cadillac might be a little late to the luxury EV party with rival companies Ford and Mercedes-Benz. But it’s still showing up in style. After five months of teaser videos, photos and video, the new Cadillac Lyriq hybrid electric crossover is now available.
The Cadillac Lyriq, the brand’s first-ever electric vehicle, is powered by GM’s long-range Ultium batteries. Lyriq’s 100-kilowatt hour setup provides 300 miles of range, level 2-charging rates up to 19 kilowatts and DC fast-charging greater than 150 kilowatts.
Cadillac claims that the Lyriq will be available in two configurations for performance: a rear-wheel-drive standard and an all-wheel drive “performance” option. The Lyriq’s Ultium battery pack is low to the ground, and the vehicle weighs in at 50/50. This should make it handle well. The Lyriq’s power output is not yet known by the company.
The Lyriq’s new design language is visually striking. It features a distinctive “grille”, which includes unique lighting elements, multiple vents in the bumper and slim, vertical headlights. The rear features a unique lighting element, with traditional taillights at the top and angular LEDs at the bottom. We can see that some of these features, such as the mirrors and headlights, are not yet production-ready. Cadillac claims that the Lyriq shown here is a prototype that’s approximately 85 percent complete.
The Lyriq’s interior has one of largest infotainment screens anywhere. The Lyriq’s 33.0-inch LED display is front and center. It extends from the dashboard to behind the steering wheel. This huge screen can display more than 1 billion colors and provides readouts for battery charging and monitoring, remote parking, and the most recent version of Super Cruise.
We will have more information about the all-electric Cadillac Lyriq as we get closer to the on-sale date.
