2021 Hyundai Sonata N Line Introduces Its Subtle Sports Sedan Form

Details about horsepower and powertrain are not yet confirmed.

The new-generation Hyundai Sonata was shown off last year in South Korea, and then at the New York Auto Show. It’s a stunning vehicle with swooping lines, bold grille and an impressive price. Hyundai confirmed that an N Line model would be following during the North American debut. The day has arrived, mostly. We’ll get to that in a moment, but for now, here is the 2021 Sonata N Line.

You’re not the only one struggling to see the differences. The Sonata’s design already has a sporty feel, but the N Line adds a little more style to it with a front fascia that features larger corner intakes and three rectangular vents below its N-specific grille. The N Line also gets side skirts to give it a slimmer profile. The arches are filled with new 19-inch wheels, while the rear fascia is lower and features dual exhaust outlets and subtle diffuser. To make the N Line stand out, the Sonata’s current spoiler that stretches between the taillights has been darkened.

The N Line is given additional attention when you move inside. The greenhouse features dark chrome trim and red contrast stitching. This is especially noticeable on the steering wheel, and the sport seats. The seatbacks have an embossed N and, naturally, the exterior has N Line badging.

SangYup Lee from Hyundai’s Global Design Center stated that the 2021 Sonata N Line would attract more customers to both our rock-solid Sonata lineup as well as our growingly popular N Line sub-brand. Customers who want sporty styling in sedan packages will love Sonata N Line.

What about the Sonata N Line’s performance? It’s not confirmed, as the debut is purely focused on the changes to the sports sedan. Hyundai confirmed that it would receive a tuned-up 2.5-liter turbocharged engine with more than 275 horsepower (205kW) at the Sonata’s New York Auto Show debut. There are also reports that power could reach as high as 290 horsepower (216 kW). However, it is not clear what the exact figure will be and how it will get distributed.
