According to some, it won’t arrive before 2023.
Mercedes presented a vague roadmap in October that described how it would expand the Maybach, G Class, and AMG brands. Electrification was the main focus of the report, but Motor.es has released a new report that suggests the possibility of a new model, the AMG SUV. Although rumors of such a car exist, we last heard about it two year ago. The company stated that it wouldn’t develop one.
However, things can change over time. According to the new report, the German automaker is working on a new AMG-dedicated SUV which will join the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe It will eventually be replaced within AMG’s range. According to reports, the company doesn’t plan on replacing the AMG sedan. The new SUV will not be a top-tier product, however. According to Motor.es Mercedes will place the new Mercedes model between the GLE & GLS. The SUV will be shorter than the 4-Door Coupe.
Competitors are the ones who allegedly have the need for the powerful SUV. Porsche has set the standard for luxury high-performance SUVs. BMW followed suit with its M-branded offerings. The company’s new and X8 M SUVs are already in development. AMG is a market leader in larger vehicles. This SUV will have a design unique to it that isn’t shared with the rest.
Motor.es expects AMG to unveil the SUV in 2023. This is not likely. Although details about the powertrain are not available, the AMG badge should give enough assurance that the model will have plenty of power under its hood. It is likely that AMG will add hybridization to the model’s power and efficiency.
