Downshifts sound like an V8-powered blender turned to rabid.
Dodge was getting ready to unleash its Challenger Demon early 2017. Texas tuner Hennessey Performance revealed its Kryptonite: The Exorcist – a 1,000 horsepower Camaro ZL1 that boasted unholy amounts power that borders on blasphemous. Sprints of 60 mph (97 km/h) can be done in three seconds, while drag races that span quarter miles are completed in less than 10 seconds when the rear tires are swapped for drag radials.
Hennessey Performance’s new video gives some biased impressions of driving. A company wouldn’t allow its employees to criticize one of its marque products. The video about the car doesn’t teach us anything. Instead, we hear the thunderous roar of the supercharged V8 engine at 1,000 horsepower.
Hennessey has upgraded many parts to increase power and manage it better. This includes the supercharger which now produces 14 psi. To keep the extreme temperatures under control, Hennessey modified cylinders and gave them new names. The video shows Camaro Exorcist adding 959 horsepower to the wheels . This is an exaggerated response for the Demon’s 840 horsepower.
The car’s exterior is not visible. The picture-in-picture shows the instrument cluster, as the driver battles through the gears in the 10-speed automatic transmission. As the car accelerates, you can see the digital numbers jumping.
It is thrilling to see a Camaro with 1,000 horsepower, but the real joy comes from the blazing soundtrack. It is almost nauseating to listen to the Camaro Exorcists. As the supercharger swallows air, it angrily spits the fuel out of the rear. The downshifts sound like a dog auditioning to be a Cujo remake.
Enjoy the video, not just to learn. It is worth the two minutes you spend on it. While you won’t be able to sign up for ministry, you might remortgage your house in order to purchase a Camaro Exorcist.
