Shelby GT500 Specifics Leaked Online Showing 720HP

The information is however suspect.

The news cycle about the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 continues to accelerate. A new leak of car specs is the latest in the march to its arrival. Mustang6G.com claims to have a photo of the specs. This appears to be a screenshot of a computer screen which makes it easy to falsify such information. There are some points that match what the site expects and others that seem bogus.

The image contains no identifying information, such as year, make or model. The engine field does however list a supercharged V8 of 5.2-liters, which is the rumored powertrain. Horsepower is another confirmation. Ford had confirmed that the GT500 would generate more than 700 horsepower back in January. The GT500’s horsepower is listed at 720 hp at 7,500 RPM, which is the same as the HTML350. It also lists 650 pound-feet (881 Newton meters) of torque. This image also shows the vehicle as an rear-wheel-drive coupe. The current Mustang’s wheelbase is 107.1 inches.

However, there are some hiccups. The GT500’s curb weight is high in this image. The spy photos make it difficult to see the car weighing in at 4,225 pounds. This car is 300 pounds heavier than the GT500’s previous model, which was able drag in less than 4,000 pounds. It’s also quite odd that the top speed is 190 mph. It is hard to imagine Ford going back to the GT500 at 202 mph just a few short years ago.

It is difficult to determine if this mockup is real or a fake. We wish it was real. The curb weight is an enormous problem. The GT350 currently weighs in around 3,800 pounds. This is 400 pounds less than the GT500’s leaked weight. This seems excessive.

Ford will likely unveil the GT500 this year, or in Detroit next year, as a 2019 model or 2020. Expect more spy photos, video and rumors as the reveal nears.
