B58B30 versus S55B30.
While both cars use engines from BMW, there are major differences. The Supra has the 3.0-liter twin turbo engine with internal code BB58B30. This engine is also used in the BMW Z4 (with or without xDrive) and the M240i. In stock form, this unit produces 335 horsepower (250 Kilowatts) as well as 369 pound-feet (599 Newton-meters), of torque.
The M2 Competition uses its S55B30 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged, single scroll engine with a carbon fibre strut brace. This is the same engine as the M3 and M4 and it produces 405 horsepower (302 kW) & 406 lbft (550 Nm), respectively, between 2,350 rpm and 5,230.
Different transmissions are available. The Supra has an eight-speed torque converter auto, while the M2 Competition comes standard with a six speed manual. An optional seven-speed dual clutch auto is also available. The Supra’s curb weight of 3351 lbs (1.520 kg) is a slight advantage over the BMW’s 3,472lbs (1.575 kg).
Now, you have the numbers. Which one do YOU think will win the race? This drag racing is not your typical 1/4-mile race. It is a 1,000-meter run which equals to 0.62 miles. After a tight race at the start, one of two sports coupes wins comfortably. Guess which one?
