Dodge Challenger ACR ruled out because it would be too heavy

Physics laws are unbreakable.

As May was drawing to a close in May, there was a rumor that Dodge would make a Challenger ACR. This track-focused version, which is the burly coupe, was circulating. This was not the first time we heard about the model. An unnamed Dodge spokesperson stated that the model would not be made. A new report by Muscle cars and Trucks now has the definitive answer. Dodge isn’t building it.

The publication spoke to Tim Kuniskis from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ head of passenger cars, who confirmed that no Challenger CR will be coming from the automaker. He told MC&T that cars will not be track cars. It’s simply physics. It’s true. Although Dodge has done a great job making the Challenger a drag racing star, it does have some weight that would make it difficult to turn into a track car.

Kuniskis admitted that he could not beat the Ford Mustang GT500. He added, “I would have to have a wings the size of a home, and I would have to have no seating.” This is something Dodge cannot do. But that doesn’t seem to be an issue for Dodge. According to MC&T, many Dodge customers prefer drag racing to road racing. Dodge doesn’t have to make one, as customers are happy with the current offerings.

Mopar enthusiasts should be familiar with the ACR moniker. It stands for American Club Racer. The badge can also be worn by other track-oriented cars, such as the Viper or, more surprising, the front-wheel drive Neon. This badge has a solid reputation even after Dodge discontinued it. We will have to be a little bit creative to see the ACR badge on a Challenger. It is impossible to overcome the Challenger’s 2 tons curb weight.
