Extraordinary procedures are required for an extraordinary car.
The Koenigsegg Regera is the only car like it. It’s not because it looks futuristic or has a lot of power. There are many hypercars that have space-age designs and high thrust. None combine sci-fi looks and hybrid tech with 1,500 horsepower and a unique direct drive system for insane acceleration. It is insane! It can go from naught up to 249 mph , and back in only 31.4 seconds.
Perhaps that’s why Regeras are time-tested at 186 mph (300 km/h), before they leave Koenigsegg. A recent Facebook post from the niche automaker explains that this is part of Regera’s predelivery process. It’s presumably to make sure the twin-turbocharged V8 engine with 5.0-liter capacity and all electrical add-ons are working properly. The unique direct-drive transmission is also tested. It keeps Regera’s engine in the horsepower sweet spot, as the speed increases. This is why Regera holds the production vehicle record for the 0-249 mph sprint (400-0 km/h).
Koenigsegg does not have a large number of Regeras that can certify speed tests. It is limited to 80 cars, and Koenigsegg stated that all of them were sold when the product launched in 2016. The Regera, which costs approximately $1.9million per car, is exclusive and both costly. We know this because of this post on social media from the automaker.
However, Regera’s factory-restricted top speed of 250 miles per hour is still a distant memory at 186 mph. With enough grip, sprinting to 60 mph is possible in just 2.8 seconds. The Regera can cruise for as little as 22 miles on electric-only power. We hope these cars will see some real-world usage instead of being kept in climate-controlled garages.
