It was not a long-lasting phenomenon in the US.
The Ford EcoSport will be the first to lose its American line-up, According to The Detroit Free Press reports. The small crossover’s manufacturing plant in India will be closed by the Blue Oval. The vehicle will still be available in the USA until mid-2022. The EcoSport model will continue to be available in the European range, while production will continue in Romania.
Ford’s EcoSport is not a top-selling model. Ford delivered 60,545 units in 2020, a drop of 6.4 percent from 64.708 units in 2019. Ford had moved 32,697 units as of August 2021, a 22.3 percent decrease from last year. The Bronco Sport, on the other hand, is outselling Ecosport with 69.518 Baby Broncos delivered in the first 8 months of this year.
The EcoSport was not a popular choice in America. The EcoSport was introduced at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2016. However, sales did not begin until early 2018. The little crossover was available in a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder or 2.0-liter four-cylinder at launch. All-wheel drive was also available for the larger powerplant.
Ford’s American lineup is now more open to the Maverick pickup, with the EcoSport gone. The base price for the small truck is $19,995. This price is already lower than the crossover’s.
The Maverick is more popular than the EcoSport due to its economies of scale. Ford can invest in these three products by putting the truck on the same platform that the Escape and Bronco Sport.
Already, there are indications that the Maverick is more popular than the EcoSport. Ford currently has 100,000 reservations to purchase the small pickup as of August. They are mostly from California, Florida, Texas. They are expected to move 110,000 units per year.
