It looks almost identical to the test mule we saw about a month ago in another batch spy photos, but let’s take a quick peek at the interior. The cabin has a completely different layout to the current model. Instead of being completed, the central air vents have been moved lower. These two circular vents are larger and no longer flank the display as they have been moved up and likely increased in size.
The buttons and knobs visible on the 7-Series, upon which the next-gen Rolls-Royce Phantom is likely to be built, appear to have been sourced. The touchscreen display and other parts are new designs.
The exterior of the test mule was a lower ride height, with two additional air intakes in front and back. At the rear, it had quad exhaust pipes that were longer. The all-new Phantom is likely to ride on the “35up”, and could lose up to 200kg (441 lbs) if it takes into consideration the next generation 7-Series. The current Phantom weighs in at 2,550kg (5,622 lbs). This will be a welcome weight loss.
The final design will follow an “evolutionary pathway” that will have “more charisma” and “more edge”, as Giles Taylor, the firm’s design director, has already said. However the V12 will still be kept under the hood. Although details are not available, there are talks of a plug-in hybrid system.
The Phantom has been on sale since 2003, with a facelift in 2012. The Phantom’s successor will be available in the coming years.
