Mustang Shelby GT500 Drag Races Ford GT In Battle Of The GTs

Ford wins.

The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is now available at dealers and ready for eager owners. Drag Times has two examples of the new muscle car, one stock and one lightly tuned, for racing against the Ford GT.

These runs take place in an industrial park, not on a drag strip. Although racing in public can be dangerous, Drag Times chooses an area that is quiet and has the SUV in the clip acting as a spotter.

This clip shows the stock GT500, which is only a day away for delivery to the dealer. It is already a joy to drive it. The car is now ready for launch after warming up the transmission.

This is where the GT500 has a weakness. Although the car launches initially fine, the traction control seems to temporarily reduce the power. The traction control is disabled so that the launch control does not work. This issue might not be as noticeable on a prepared drag track.

We won’t spoil the Mustangs’ performance against the GT because it’s the highlight video. Drag Times adjusts the GT500’s launch control to different rpm points to observe how it affects straight-line performance.

The GT500s are pitted against each other after the Mustangs race the GT. The modified car is slightly slower than the original, but gains speed as it goes faster. Next, the owner will install a new supercharger pulley. Also, he will need to remove the catalytic converters. This should give him a significant boost in power.
