Porsche is being pushed by Mercedes and Aston to make it even better.
Porsche only produced 918 units between 2013 and 2015. Each unit cost $847,000. Anyone who is interested in buying one new has to be aware that all examples are gone. We won’t see replacements for the hybrid hypercar until 2025, at which point we will have to wait.
According to , Oliver Blume (Porsche’s global chief), said that a replacement for the 918 could be possible in the near future. Blume stated that while there was a possibility of a replacement for the 918 in the near future, it would not be in the immediate future. He also said that special models such as the 918 Spyder are usually launched every 10 years. In 2015, the Spyder was launched. The Spyder was launched in 2015.
Although the rumored hypercar is still in development, Porsche’s CEO already cites Mercedes-AMG’s upcoming Project One Hypercar and the new Aston Martin Valkyrie for competition. He said, “We love competition because we come from motorsport.”
The 918 replacement will be more extreme than the hypercar it replaces, if and/or when production begins. As a reminder, the 918 has a 4.6-liter V8 and two electric motors to produce 652 kilowatts (652 horsepower), a 0-60 mile-per hour (96 km/h) time of approximately 2.5 seconds, and an top speed of 210 miles (340 kmh).
The success of the hybrid 918 and the addition of more hybrid vehicles to the lineup – such as the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid that produces as much as 671 horsepower (500 kW) since then, you can expect the successor to the 918 to utilize some of the same technology. Maybe Porsche can even beat Lamborghini’s Nurburgring record.
