Hyundai unveiled the 2011 Elantra, also known as the Avante, at the Busan Motor Show in South Korea.
The Elantra has been completely redesigned. The Elantra features a fluid sculpture design, four-door coupe styling and HID (High Intensity Drain) headlights. It also has LED taillights.
Hyundai claims the cabin has “advanced functions not found in other compacts”, although no interior photos were released. The cabin features heated rear seats, ambient lighting and a color TFT LCD information screen.
The Elantra’s engine is a 1.6-liter Gamma-GDI (Gasoline Direct Ignition) four-cylinder with 140 PS (138 HP / 103kW) and 133 Lb-ft (175 Nm) of torque. The car is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission that makes it “10% more fuel efficient than its closest rivals.”
Steve S. Yang (President and CEO of Hyundai’s Global Business Division) stated that the new Avante (Elantra), Hyundai’s latest ambitions encompass Hyundai’s best styling and performance in this class. We are confident it will redefine the compact segment globally.
Korean sales will start in the second half 2010 and global availability will follow shortly.
