Why pack mules when you could just take the truck?
Nissan is known for making custom Titan pickups. The latest addition to the Ultimate Titan collection is the big blue XD Crew Cab, which will traverse the rugged terrain surrounding one of the greatest natural wonders in the world. This rig is called the Ultimate Parks Titan and Nissan will donate it to the Grand Canyon Conservancy in the context of their partnership with the National Park Foundation.
“Nissan is proud to support the outstanding work being performed, trail-by-trail, campsite-by-campsite, by partners like the National Park Foundation, Grand Canyon Conservancy and Arizona Conservation Corps,” said Tiago Castro, director for Nissan’s light commercial vehicles in North America. The custom-built Titan XD 4×4 with trailer and a tent should make the work of these partners in remote areas of the park a lot easier, safer, and hopefully more enjoyable.
The custom truck will serve two purposes. It will first be a support vehicle for Grand Canyon Conservancy’s Canyon Field School, which allows youth to enjoy the natural wonders of the Grand Canyon. The truck will also be used to maintain and repair trails and other infrastructure in the park. The Titan will have to do a lot of work because many areas are often accessed by horses or pack mules.
The Titan XD receives only minor mechanical upgrades to reach these areas. The Titan XD has a three-inch suspension lift, and a Hellwig air suspension system that increases ground clearance. 35-inch offroad tires on Method 701 Trail Series wheels provide traction. Although the powertrain, a 390-horsepower (291 kilowatt), 5.6-liter V8 coupled to a seven-speed auto transmission, is still in stock, the frame was extended to accommodate the custom servicebed from CM Truck Beds. There are many storage areas, equipment racks and tie-downs inside. This frame can accommodate everything you need, even a pop-up tent. A custom off-road camper trailer is located at the rear for those occasions when more equipment or better accommodations are required.
Although Nissan has made several Titan trucks custom for customers, this Ultimate Titan was built specifically for non-profit organizations in the Calling all Titans campaign. The truck will be displayed at the 2019 Overland Expo West, Flagstaff, Arizona on May 17-19.
