The car’s name is Mega Man 2, the gigantic robotic dragon boss of Mega Man 2.
We are still surprised by very few designs, even though we have seen many boldly designed cars throughout the years. It’s not hard for Chinese automakers come up with something so unique as the Saloon Mecha Dragon. Let’s first look at the unusual name of this car. “Saloon” refers to a new sub-brand of Great Wall Motors (GWM). Mecha Dragon refers to a boss that you must fight in Mega Man 2.
The fictional character is a flying hydrogen balloon that emits flames from its head and tail. The wild EV was unveiled at Auto Guangzhou 2021. It fully embraces mecha (robots and androids, etc.). It would look great in a Grand Theft Auto title, dare we? You will love its many lines and angles, as well as the fastback derriere.
We’ve noticed a trend in Chinese cars recently, such as the Ford Evos. The Saloon Mecha Dragon has an extremely wide infotainment that covers about half the dashboard. The instrument cluster is joined by the lateral air vents, taking up most of the dashboard space. Although the EV appears to have five seats, the middle seat at the back with its darker bluer finish seems quite narrow.
The cup holders remind us a lot of the Porsche Panamera. However, the cabin looks nice and comfortable. Although the ambient lighting is a little too bright for our purposes, it could just be a design choice. Two-spoke steering wheel are making a comeback. The lower half of this dash is in a lighter shade, so there’s quite a bit of blue inside.
Technical specifications: The Saloon Mecha Dragon (we still haven’t gotten used to its name) has dual electric motors that produce 543 horsepower (405 kilowatts), and 750 Newton-meters (551 pound feet) of torque. The large 115-kWh lithium-ion battery packs provides enough power to cover 802 km (or nearly 500 miles) of the China light-duty vehicle test cycle.
The device supports fast charging at 480kW. This is more than the Porsche Taycan or Hyundai Ioniq 5, as well as their mechanically identical siblings. The battery will be charged at maximum power for 10 mins to give it 401 km (250 mi) of range. Local media reported that the car has four LIDARs, more cameras and sensors than can be counted for advanced driver assistance systems.
According to our sources, the Saloon Mecha Dragon costs 488,800 yuan (or $76,400 at current exchange rates).
