Although it’s not as elegant as the Prophecy concept of style, it does have its own style.
We have bad news for those who thought Hyundai would just stamp the attractive Prophecy concept sedan as production ready. The bad news is not all bad. New spy photos confirm that the Ioniq 6 will keep the essence of the concept’s design when it enters production. It won’t be as close to the original concept that many of us had hoped for.
This is the best shot we have taken of Hyundai’s EV sedan so far, with 24 high-resolution photos. What do we see? The Prophecy’s front and rear overhangs are longer than the Prophecy’s, and the vehicle rides higher. The rear-opening back doors are gone and the pillarless design is replaced with something more traditional. However, the handles on the doors look large, so we suspect that they’re hidden items similar to the concept.
We think the prophecy-like body lines of the Prophecy are more recognizable than the heavily camouflaged test vehicle would have you believe. Pay attention to the rear, especially the cutouts in camo for the taillights. These lenses are low and the rear camouflage hides a clue. The zipper runs below the lights and down to the rear bumper. This is likely to be in place to allow the trunk to be opened. It should also provide insight into the actual body line that slopes towards the ground.
We don’t know much about the interior or powertrain. It will share the Ioniq single or dual-motor options. The ranges for single-motor rear wheel-drive models are 300 miles. Dual motors would be available for all-wheel-drive models, with an estimated range of 270 mi. Although there won’t likely be a high-powered version at launch, spy photos of an Ioniq5 Nare already a reality. There’s no reason not to believe that an Ioniq6 N with Tesla-rivalling performance could happen in the future.
