Both at the front and back, new lights
It is not known to anyone that BMW has begun work on a facelift of the 5 Series range. The premium model has been tested on public roads in sedan, and wagon versions. This new batch of spy photos gives us our first glimpse at the new M5. This prototype, which is slightly camouflaged, gives us a preview of what we can expect from the facelifted model when it arrives in the second half next year.
The camo foil on the front is obvious to even the most casual observer. It conceals a modified front fascia that features what appears to be new laser headlights. These include internal graphics with different LED daytime running lamps. Although the kidney grille seems to be slightly larger than it was before, we will be able confirm this once the disguise is removed. There are likely to be modifications to the bumper, such as reshaped air intakes or a lower grille.
The back is a similar story. Although the changes are minor, the camouflage suggests that there may be some modifications to the taillights’ design. The rear bumper is actually disguised. This could indicate that the diffuser or overall layout could be modified. The M5’s exhaust pipes look almost identical to today’s M5.
We don’t know much about the mechanicals of the performance sedan . The M5’s twin-turbo V8 engine is a 4.4-liter twin turbo V8. It produces 591 horsepower (441 kilowatts) as well as 553 pound-feet (553 Newton-meters) of torque. The M5 Competition is powered by 617 horsepower (460 kW) with the same level of torque.
We expect the engine will be the same as the current model. However, the engine might be modified to produce more power and lower CO2 emissions. The suspension and brakes may also be modified, but this is not confirmed at the moment.
